Kanneliya Forest

Kanneliya Forest

Kanneliya Rainforest, recognized by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve since 2004, stands as Sri Lanka’s largest intact rainforest complex. Stretching over 5,300 hectares across rolling hills and valleys, it serves as the crucial watershed for several rivers including the Gin Ganga and Nilwala Ganga. The forest teems with life—from lively monkeys and colorful chameleons to a variety of exotic snakes and a vast array of tropical flora. Visitors are often enchanted by spectacular birdlife flitting through the canopy and the sight of a stunning waterfall deep within the green heart of Kanneliya.
